My Turmeric Was Doing Something. It Just Was Not Doing Enough.

September, 2026 By Anne Whitfield

My wedding ring has been sitting in a dish by the sink since March. I am 47, my finger joints started swelling last winter, and for about twelve months I took turmeric every morning because a woman in a Facebook group swore by it. As far as I could tell it did nothing. What I worked out, in a comment thread of all places, is that it was doing something. Just not very much of it, and not for the reason I had assumed. That thread is also where somebody mentioned Strides Daily, which is what I take now. I did not switch because of a promise. I switched because I counted. Here are the five things nobody had explained.

GET MY HANDS BACK

1. A joint is four parts, not one

This is the part that reframed everything for me. A joint is not one thing that either works or hurts. It is four parts, and they do not move at the same speed.

The part

What supports it

How fast

The cushion

GlucosaGreen glucosamine

slow, weeks 4 to 8

The fluid

Hyaluronic acid

medium, weeks 3 to 6

Connective tissue

MSM

medium, weeks 3 to 6

Soreness the day after you use it

Turmeric, boswellia, white willow bark

fast, weeks 1 to 3

Almost every bottle on the shelf is built around one of those four. Usually one, because a single active is cheap to make and easy to print on a front label. Once you have seen that table, the aisle stops looking like fifty competing products and starts looking like four categories, most of them selling you one.

2. Whatever you already own is one of the seven

Turmeric is one of the seven actives in the bottle I take now. So is glucosamine. Boswellia, MSM, hyaluronic acid, white willow bark and black pepper are the rest.

Which means the jar in your cabinet was never fake and it was never nothing. It was a seventh, working on the fastest of the four parts, while the other three went unattended.

I have read that sentence written a hundred different ways by women who did not know that was what they were describing. One of them: "my finger joints are so swollen I can't wear rings anymore. I wake up feeling 200 years old." Another: "Mine started in my fingers, my knuckles were swollen and tender and I couldn't hold a pen properly." Nobody in those threads was unlucky or gullible. We were all covering a quarter of the problem and waiting for a whole result.

Other people, in their own words

Comments from public menopause and perimenopause threads about joints. Nobody here is talking about Strides Daily and nobody here was asked about it.

“At night if I sleep with my hand in a fist it gets 'stuck' there and it takes me a while to be able to open it fully again.”

-Jane, 56

“A month ago I suddenly had terrible shoulder pain, hip pain and swelling in my hands and feet. My hands will also lock up sometimes and tingle like crazy.”

-Rebecca, 50

“Feels like it’s deep in my bones. Everything from my jaw, to my fingers and into my toes. Only on the left side though. It’s nothing I can stretch out.”

-Diane, 46

“my hands and fingers are achy all the time. actually, my entire body aches most days.”

-Elliot, 44

3. Coverage costs pill count, so check what they are asking you to swallow

Here is the catch nobody mentions. Covering four parts instead of one means more actives, and more actives usually means more capsules. That is why the number on the front of a bottle is almost never the number in a capsule.

A bottle advertising 1500mg often means four. Some want six. I have counted nine on a label. Turn it over and read the serving size before you read anything on the front, because that one number tells you what covering the whole joint is actually going to cost you every morning for a year.

Strides Daily is two capsules a day, with food. Not four, not nine. That was the number that made me willing to try it, because a regimen you quit in March covers nothing at all.

4. Two weeks of nothing is not a red flag

Look at the speed column in that table again. The soreness side moves first. The cushion and the connective tissue are slow by design, because that is simply what those ingredients do.

So the first two weeks can feel like nothing at all, and the smaller things tend to ease somewhere around week four to six. That is the honest shape of it, and it is also the reason so many of us quit at day ten and told everyone the category was a scam. We were quitting three weeks before the slow parts were due to arrive.

I would rather be told that plainly than sold a miracle. Anything in this aisle promising you a different answer by Friday is telling you something about itself, not about your hands.

5. Do not take my word for it. Count the label.

This is the only advice on this page worth anything, and it costs nothing.

Do not believe me. Do not believe a comment section either. Pull up the supplement facts panel. Count the actives. Then go and count the ones on whatever is already in your cabinet and see how many of the four parts it covers.

That comparison is the entire reason I bought, and it is the only thing I would ask you to do. There are 60 days to send it back if the counting turns out to be wrong, which means the test runs on their money rather than yours.

What getting your hands back costs

Fermented glucosamine, so it is shellfish free

Made in the USA in a cGMP registered facility, batch tested

How long before you notice anything

Here is the honest version, and it is the same one printed on the bottle.

It builds over the first two weeks. Through those two weeks most people notice nothing at all, and that is not a sign it is failing. The soreness actives move first. The cushion and the connective tissue are slower by design, and the smaller things tend to ease somewhere between week four and week six.

That is why the guarantee runs 60 days and not 30. One bottle is 30 days, which runs out at exactly the point where it is still too early to know anything. Two bottles is the honest quantity for a test like this, and the third one is free.

Who this is not for

This is not for everyone and it is worth saying who it is not for.

The capsule shell is gelatin, so it is not suitable if you are vegetarian or vegan. Shellfish free is not the same thing as either of those.

White willow bark contains salicin. If you take blood thinners, or you are sensitive to aspirin, speak to your doctor before you start. The same goes if you are pregnant, nursing, or already on medication for your joints.

And if your joints have been diagnosed with something specific, understand what this is. It is joint support. It sits alongside what your doctor has you on. It does not replace it and it is not a reason to skip an appointment.

Sixty days. Send it back if nothing shifts, opened bottles included.

Questions people ask first

What makes this different from what I already tried?

Coverage rather than potency. Most bottles are built around one of the four parts of a joint. This has seven actives across all four. Whatever you took before is almost certainly one of the seven.

How big are the capsules and how many do I take?

Two a day, with food. That is the full dose, not the per-capsule figure. There is no four-a-day or nine-a-day version of this.

How long until I notice anything?

It builds over the first two weeks and most people notice nothing in that window. Smaller things tend to ease around weeks four to six. Nobody here will promise you a week.

Is it safe with what I already take?

White willow bark contains salicin, so check with your doctor if you are on blood thinners or aspirin sensitive. Same if you are pregnant, nursing, or on joint medication.

What if it does nothing?

Sixty days to send it back. That window is deliberately longer than a single bottle lasts.

Sixty days to decide, and the ring is still in the dish either way.
